I spent the weekend up north in Jacksonville, Florida where I first visited the Amelia Island lighthouse. It wasn’t open for climbing but I was able to go just inside the door and look up the stairs towards the top. Because of its location in a quiet neighborhood and its safety code, it is likely to remain closed to the public except for visiting it on Saturday afternoons. I was also able to get a nice distant view of the light from Fort Clinch State Park.
In the early evening, I walked along the beach at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, where I was able to view the St. Johns lighthouse on the Mayport Naval Station. I thought about driving over to the base for some photos of the St. Johns River light, but decided to go on Sunday morning, for some nice but hazy shots of the red light, also on the naval station.
